The town of Rockwood, located in Guelph Eramosa Township, offers the charm of small town life in balance with the rugged natural history that has made this community a destination of choice for visitors, and a welcome place to settle in for those who call it home.

Neighbourhoods new and old have grown to establish the village around the main street, while the rural countryside extends outwards in all directions. The sense of community and inclusion has grown with it, cultivating a strong sense of volunteerism and shared values for a quality of life at every stage.

Location is the key to this community’s growth. Located in southern Wellington County, Rockwood’s access to major routes and larger urban centres makes it an ideal place to establish roots. Within 20 minutes of the city of Guelph, and a direct link west to the Kitchener–Waterloo region along Highway 7, the town is also a short distance south to Highway 401, the gateway to Toronto, Hamilton and beyond. Rockwood allows commuters the benefit of easy access to major urban centres, with the ability to leave the city behind and enjoy the merits of town where the street lights don’t outshine the starlight.

Environmental consciousness is embedded in the town’s history because of the natural wonders at the heart of it, found in the Rockwood Conservation Area. Operated by the Grand River Conservation Authority, the large park features towering limestone cliffs that shoulder the waters of the Eramosa River, best viewed from a canoe or kayak. With many caves to explore, trails to follow and the spectacle of glacial potholes, a rare treasure in the area, the landscape allows visitors to connect to a past that is protected today. The Harris Mill Ruins are a popular destination, as is the beach front of the reservoir, perfect for swimming and overnight camping too.

Rockwood is growing, but it continues to honour its past by celebrating the heritage of the village and its agricultural traditions. From Pioneer Days each June to one of the most popular Santa Claus Parades in Wellington County, the Rockwood Parade of Lights, a sparkling parade of antique and modern tractors. Throughout the year, there are events to gather people together and celebrate the town they call home.
